REGGAE VIBES

Mostly Marley started as a house gig, two years ago June 2003, with the idea of bringing Classic Reggae to an otherwise starving audience. The name stems from having been asked; "What kind of music do you play?" The answer would always be; "Classic Reggae by various artists, but mostly Marley."

As a band of four, a basic rhythm section consisting of: Billy Mendoza on bass, a much traveled and experienced musician whose consistent and tasteful playing contains the glue that holds it all together. Cris Joss on guitar, also known as one of Vancouver's best, never ceases to amaze with new, fresh and innovative ideas. He is consistently the most creative monster I've had the pleasure of working with. Tim Proznick on drums who is one of Vancouver's most sought after musicians. Credits include: local recording with Rap artist Kia Kadiri, Mocha Only, Swollen Members, Soul Stream, and numerous other Rap and recording artists. Yours truly, Mike Henry, on vocals, having been raised in Southern USA, I'm well rooted in Old School Funk and Soul, Gospel and Blues, also being part of my musical education. I've borrowed from each genre taking what works for my particular style. Reggae became a late appreciation and not so much in the years before Bob Marley's death. I've come to appreciate the man and his message and what he meant to so many; his fellow Jamaicans firstly and the effect he had on the rest of the world. The more I experience this music I've come to realize that it is not where you hail from, but Reggae is a state of mind because you feel the music in your soul. I think Peter Tosh put it best in saying that; "No matter where you come from, you're an African."

As a band I think we perform with passion and try to maintain credibility while also remaining true to the spirit of Reggae. We give the material our own unique blend. Mostly Marley is a band that takes you on a musical odyssey with good times to be had by all.
