Hard Swinging Jazz Originals and Fiery Standards
Firmly Rooted in the Hard Bop Tradition
The Cory Weeds Quintet is a group that is rooted heavily in the hard bop traditions of the likes of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and the bands of Horace Silver. Anchored by the hard swinging rhythm team of Jesse Cahill (drums) and Ken Lister (bass) the quintet weaves their way through crafty originals, and reworked standards with grace and fire.
Cory Weeds, club owner, producer, and saxophonist extraordinaire, is hitting the road on tour with some of the best musicians in the jazz world in support of the newly released chart-climbing “Everything’s Coming Up Weeds”.
An album delightful to both trained and untrained ears, the synchronicity between the players is electric, and the musical chemistry comes through loud and clear on this, the 51st release of Cellar Live Records. Sitting comfortably on the Jazz Week Charts in the top 30, and hitting as high as the number nine spot, this album has taken to the sky and shows no signs of slowing down.
The Cory Weeds Quintet, live and on CD, has featured a number of prominent guest musicians including:

“Weeds is best known as the owner of the Jazz Cellar on Broadway but his jazz label, Cellar Live, has produced a consistently good line of albums. Naturally, he has recorded himself on sax and fits right in. It's great to see that someone who stands for something he professes to love can also back his talk up with proof. Here he and his group pay tribute to a variety of styles but perhaps the standout is the opening track, ‘B.B.'s Blue Blues’, a composition by Ross Taggart that swings mightily.” Tom Harrison - The Vancouver Province
“If anything, there is jazz in full bloom here, end-to-end.” Raul d'Gama Rose – All About Jazz
